Carers Support West Wales

Carers Support West Wales

During Carers Week 2024, the Carers Support West Wales team shared their latest promotional bilingual videos promoting the services available on their regional website, Carers Support West Wales (CSWW).

The CSWW website supports the provision and accessibility of consistent carer specific information, assistance and advice for unpaid carers in the three counties. CSWW is divided into three distinct sections, allowing carers to easily navigate the platform and explore information locally and regionally.

  • On the ‘My Community’ section, carers will find local offers, promotions and discounts that can support them in their caring role in their community. An interactive map provides a quick visualisation of any activities close by as well as the relevant contact details.
  • The ‘Support’ section provides support that is felt could benefit them as a carer such as how to register as an unpaid carer with your GP and how to register for a Carers Recognition Card. Using a filter system to navigate this, carers are able to search several local and national organisations to find the information they need.
  • The ‘News’ section shares essential information that is timely and relevant, from a list of support with cost-of-living crisis to Carers magazines providing local and national information that may be useful to carers and professionals.

Young Carers Update: March 2024

Since Christmas the young carers project has been bustling with activity.

We’ve collaborated with the local authority young carers team and joined in with their youth clubs, providing valuable opportunities for respite in various areas across the county.

Young Carers Action Day on 14th March saw our team setting up outreach stands in three Coleg Sir Gar campuses, offering advice, support, and guidance to young people.

Over the past three months, we’ve organised numerous clubs and trips, including 5 young carer clubs, one lunch club, three young adult carer clubs, a day trip to Manor Wildlife Park and an outdoor activity residential to Llandysul Paddlers (great pics of our brave young carers!). These experiences have allowed young people to take a break from their caring roles, connect with peers who understand their experiences, and enjoy new adventures.

With Easter approaching, we’re excited about our action-packed programme of nine activities over ten days, which everyone is eagerly anticipating.

W.A.N.D (We Are Neuro Diverse)

W.A.N.D (We Are Neuro Diverse) has been set up by parents and carers of neuro diverse children to help support parent carers and/or guardians of children diagnosed with (or on the pathway to diagnosis) Autism , ADHD, PDA, etc.

Having previously been part of starting an autism group in the area, both Justine and Kathryn decided to branch out into the neurodiverse category so that they could welcome people with children with not only Autism but everyone on the spectrum.

With our enthusiastic moderators Katie, Danielle and Louise, our aim is to involve the children in exclusive inclusive events/sessions to help with socialising skills, whilst the parents, carers and siblings can be with like-minded people, this will then help alleviate feelings of isolation, loneliness and judgement that can come with these conditions in a normal setting.

For further information see the facebook group or email weareneurodiverse@yahoo.com

Carers Rights Day 2023

This year we celebrated Carers Rights Day with a vibrant and engaging event at the National Botanic Gardens. The event, attended by 64 unpaid carers, was facilitated by Professor Nick Andrews of Swansea University and focussed on carers rights to have a break from their caring role.
More people are caring for a loved one than ever before and we all know that caring for a loved one can be a positive and rewarding experience, but carers need support and access to short breaks to help them continue their vital role.
It was uplifting to hear from so many carers what the importance of a short break means to them, giving them a much-needed opportunity to recharge their batteries and have some well-earned rest and relaxation.
